THe governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Rivers State during the 2023 general elections, Tonye Ibraye, has urged the the Department of State Services (DSS) to fish out individuals behind plot for interim government.

According to Ibraye, calls for a transitional or interim government following the expiration of the regime of the President, Muhammadu Buhari is alien to the nation’s constitution.

Ibraye who spoke yesterday in Abuja also called for a smooth transition on May 29,2023.

The DSS had last week announced that it uncovered a plot pushing for an interim government. There have also been calls on the agency to name the sponsors of the plot.

BIbraye said: “The elections have come and gone, irrespective of the challenges that the opposition members faced. It is high time we rallied round the winner (of the presidential election) and move on.

The opposition parties and presidential candidates that are challenging the results; just like every Nigerian that mean well for this country, it is only appropriate for them to use the right channel to address their grievances and concerns as enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria on post election mechanism that are available such as the tribunal and others.

“However, what I personally will like to frown at is the recent news going round the media that some people are capitalising and taking advantage of the confusion at this time to push, advocate or by directly or indirectly sponsoring the emergence of an interim government to replace President Muhammadu Buhari’s government instead of swearing in Chief Bola Tinubu who is the President-elect come May 29.

“I will like to say that this is unacceptable. We don’t want any kind of action that will truncate the democracy that we all have been nurturing for a very long time. We want Nigerians to use the right channels; bringing in a transitional or an interim government or whatever name it is disguised is criminal, allien to our constitution.”

Adding: “I am calling on the security agencies to as a matter of urgency to fish out those behind this plan, arrest and prosecute them and charge them for treason because it is a reasonable felony to try to truncate our democracy.

“I also call on president Muhammadu Buhari’s government to stand by the constitution, come May 29, make a peaceful hand over of power to the president-elect that has been announced by INEC so that Nigeria will continue to remain a peaceful country and play our leadership role as the giant of Africa that we are noted for”, he said.
