Rivers State House of Assembly has moved a motion condemning activities of illegal crude oil refiners, collaborators, and sponsors in the state.

The motion, which was presented at plenary, yesterday, by the leader of the House, Martin Amaewhule (Obio-Akpor constituency 1), was sponsored by Maol Dumle (Gokana Constituency).

Amaewhule prayed the House to condemn the proliferation of illegal bunkering sites, accusing security agencies of abetting the refiners.

The Speaker of the House, Ikunye Owaji-Ibani, who stated that the motion was of urgent public importance, condemned persons that play politics with the environmental situation in the state, adding that the state faced serious health challenges.

Reading the prayers of the motion, the Speaker disclosed that the House would move to the state Commissioner of Police; Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); Nigeria Army and Navy, to press for improved efforts aimed at curbing the menace of soot.
