Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has said the political crisis in the state is distressing and can cause depression.
Last month, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers for six months, declaring a state of emergency over the conflict between the executive and legislature.
Tinubu appointed retired naval chief Ibok-Ete Ibas as the state’s sole administrator.
Speaking on Monday at his private residence in Port Harcourt while receiving Muslim leaders, Fubara acknowledged the psychological toll of the crisis.
“As humans, we may feel depressed because of the situation and what we are witnessing, but we may not fully understand the deeper forces at play,” he said. “However, in all things, we choose to give glory to God.”

He urged patience and resilience, assuring his supporters that they would emerge stronger.
“Our vision for this state is a society where no one is oppressed. This struggle is crucial,” he said. “Please remain patient and do not be provoked. Their aim is to create disorder and disrupt your means of livelihood, but we will not allow that.”

Fubara emphasised the need for peace and respect for constituted authority, stating, “What they want is to create a problem, to deny you that means of livelihood that you have here.
“We’ll not allow it. We’ll continue to operate in a peaceful manner, and we’ll continue to respect constituted authority to ensure that this state remains the envy of every other state in Nigeria.”
