Rivers State Government has debunked reports of a shoot-out near Government House as reported in the media.

Contrary to the report the Special Assistant to the governor of the state, Kelvin Ebiri, explained that the shootout happened at Abonnema Wharf.

He said: “That location is very popular and can suffice to be Abonnema Wharf. Otherwise, the Abonnema Wharf Road runs straight onto Mile 1 Diobu. On its path are Silverbird Cinema, Rivers State Ecumenical Centre and the Boro Park flyover. All those are possible landmarks that are closer, that is if the writer must use a landmark structure to further provide description to the readers to have a mental picture of where Abonnema Wharf is located.

“Weaving Rivers State Government House, which is the official residence of the governor of Rivers State into an event that happened at some 3.6km away cast a shadow of an ulterior motive.”
