• Urges Tinubu, CJF to caution Amaewhule, 26 others against crisis in state
• 2027 election will be a walkover for Fubara, says Ihunwo
The Rivers State lawmakers in the House of Representatives have told pro-Governor Siminalayi Fubara lawmakers in the state Assembly led by the Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, that they are not alone in the fight for justice and true democracy.
The Rivers National Assembly (NASS) caucus led by the member representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, assured Oko-Jumbo that NASS lawmakers from the state are solidly with them.
Abiante, therefore, urged President Bola Tinubu, the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and other institutions in the country to caution pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers led by Martins Amaewhule to stop distorting facts about the Justice James Omotosho judgment.
The caucus made the call yesterday during a solidarity visit to the Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly, warning that Amaewhule’s continuous false claim may lead to the breakdown of law and order.
The caucus members who paid the visit include the ”representing Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency, Boma Goodhead; member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Boniface Emerengwa; Okrika /Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency Rep, Anderson Allison Igbiks, and member representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency, Manuchim Umezurike.
Recall that last week NASS caucus loyal to Wike and led by the member representing Obio-Akpor Federal Constituency, Kingsley Chinda, also paid a solidarity visit to the Martin Amaewhule group, urging Fubara to obey court judgment by recognising Amaewhule as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
However, Abiante insisted that the judgment of Justice Omotosho did not touch on the status of Amaewhule and his group of 26 lawmakers.
Abiante described the visit and press briefing by some Rivers NASS members, in sympathy with Amaewhule and his group last week, as a total ‘distortion of facts’.
He said: “Amaewhule and 26 others had lost their seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly, following their voluntary defection which happened on the floor of the House of Assembly in the full glare of the public on December 11, 2023.”
MEANWHILE, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Council Area of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has ruled out any obstacle for Fubara ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ihunwo premised his position on the overwhelming support the governor is enjoying across the 23 local councils in the state and across party divides.
He spoke yesterday when a group known as the Simplified Academicians paid him a courtesy visit at the council headquarters in Rumuodomaya.
According to him, 98 per cent of Rivers people, including Obio/Akpor, support the governor based on his good works and kind heart.
