ROFWOL advocates support for cancer patients

Rock Foundation for Widows, Orphans & Less Privileged (ROFWOL), a non-profit organisation committed to empowering underprivileged children and poor widows, has called for support for cancer patients and expressed the need to eliminate or minimize the disease.

The founder of the Foundation, Mrs Favour Chika-Okafor, made the call in a statement, which unfolded plans by the foundation to commemorate its 22nd anniversary in charitable works, and 12 years as a registered trust foundation.

To mark the anniversary, she said plans by the foundation have reached an advanced stage to tackle cervical cancer and related ailments affecting underprivileged Nigerians, particularly children and widows.

According to her, the cervical cancer programme and screenings, like other activities of the Foundation, will be offered free of charge.

She noted that the programme would cost huge amount of money, but said the cost would not deter the Foundation, saying: “When there is a will and commitment, there will always be a way, especially since the project is meant to affect humanity positively and better the lives of the underprivileged; and, more importantly, the project enjoys divine support, through well-meaning Nigerians.”

On how to raise the needed fund, she said: “Raising the fund is secondary. The most important thing is that we are driven by commitment, passion and strong desire to succeed. With these basic qualities, other needs, including finance by our support partners, will follow seamlessly.

“We expect that corporate bodies and individuals will be equally attracted to our campaign against cervical cancer. No doubt, they will support us. We will be bringing some of them together on Sunday, December 10 in Lagos to brief them on ROFWOL’s Cervical Cancer Campaign and to solicit their support.”

The founder, who hails from Nnobi in Anambra State, Nigeria, holds B.Eng & MEng. in Chemical Engineering and MSc. in BioMedical Engineering from the United States of America.
