Rotary Club of Lagos restates commitment to serving humanity


In a night of elegance and philanthropy, the Rotary Club of Lagos (RCL) hosted its grand annual President’s Dinner at the Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event, chaired by the representative of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Sir Victor Okoronkwo, who is also the GMD of Aiteo Limited, was a gathering that not only celebrated the club’s long-standing service but also showcased its significant contributions to community development.

The gala, attended by dignitaries, including the District Governor, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie, served as a testament to the club’s unwavering dedication to Rotary International’s mission of fostering global change.

Founded in 1962, the Rotary Club of Lagos stands as the premier Rotary Club in Nigeria, distinguished by its dynamic role in community service and humanitarian efforts.

In his address, the president of Rotary Club of Lagos, Major General (Rtd.) Abiodun Kamourudeen Role, spoke on the seven points and areas of Rotary service globally, emphasising the club’s significant contributions to these areas.

According to him, the club has been instrumental in eradicating polio, promoting peace, supporting education, and providing clean water and sanitation, among other critical initiatives.

He said: “The Rotary Club of Lagos continues to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change, touching lives and bridging cultural divides in communities both locally and globally.”

Rotary Club Of Lagos, Ifeoma Williams, said the event underscored the club’s commitment to the Rotary International ethos, uniting over 1.2 million members across 200 countries in a shared goal of making a lasting difference.

“The Rotary Club of Lagos, through its initiatives, not only fosters a spirit of camaraderie and global understanding but also acts as a powerful force for sustainable change in the world.

“We stand ready to continue the legacy of service, embodying the essence of empowerment, enlightenment, and equitable opportunity for all.”

The evening was not just a celebration but also a showcase of the club’s past projects, highlighting its impactful journey in service.

The club acknowledged the generous support of its sponsors, whose contributions have been pivotal in the successful execution of various community projects.

The attendees were treated to a display of the club’s rich history and its relentless pursuit of ‘Service Above Self.’
