Salaam congratulates Aregbesola on ADC role, calls it recognition of public service

Former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam, has congratulated former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on his appointment as Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the development as a testament to Aregbesola’s continued relevance in Nigerian politics.

In a statement made available to the press on Thursday, Salaam, who holds a doctorate degree in political science, described the appointment as a reflection of Aregbesola’s long-standing record of public service and leadership.

“Ogbeni Aregbesola’s contributions to Nigeria’s political and administrative landscape are both historic and inspiring,” Salaam said. “From his tenure as Governor of Osun State to his time as Minister of Interior, he has shown political courage and administrative competence.”

Salaam expressed confidence in Aregbesola’s capacity to contribute meaningfully to the ADC’s repositioning, especially as the party works to establish itself ahead of future electoral contests. He described the appointment as timely and noted that Aregbesola’s approach to leadership could help restore public confidence in party politics.

“I believe Ogbeni’s experience and inclusive leadership style will bring renewed energy to the ADC and offer direction as the party seeks to grow its national profile,” he stated.

The former speaker also extended prayers for guidance and success in Aregbesola’s new assignment and reaffirmed his personal support, saying the former governor still has a significant role to play in shaping Nigeria’s political future.

Aregbesola’s appointment comes at a time when the ADC is involved in a broader opposition coalition effort, seeking to position itself as a viable alternative to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
