Sales rep bolts with employer’s N8.7m

Lagos, April 29, 2015 (NAN) A company's sales representative, Helen Ocheme,who allegedly stole her employer’s N8.7 million, was on Wednesday in Lagos charged before an Ikeja Magistrates' Court.

Lagos, April 29, 2015 (NAN) A company’s sales representative, Helen Ocheme,who allegedly stole her employer’s N8.7 million, was on Wednesday in Lagos charged before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, Ocheme, 34, who resides at No. 31, Ogunlana St., Aguda, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

She pleaded innocence of the offences.

But the prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu told the court that the accused committed the offences between September 2014 and February 2015 as a staff of Stanqueen Investment Ltd. located at Cocoa Warehouse Ogba in Ikeja.

He said Ocheme as the company’s sales representative obtained products valued at N5 million, but failed to remit the proceeds to the company’s account.

“Ocheme collected the products valued at N5 millon from September 2014 and February 2015, sold them but failed to remit the proceeds of the sales to her employer.

“The accused within the same period also stole N3.7 million company’s funds and absconded,” Nnamonu said.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, ordered the accused to deposit N50, 000 at the court’s Deputy Registrar’s office.

She also granted Ocheme bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 15 for trial.
