Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the first phase of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway Phase One (Eleko junction to Epe T-junction) project and flagged off construction of phase two (Eleko Junction to Abraham Adesanya).

At the inauguration in Ibeju Lekki, yesterday, the governor appreciated the support of residents during construction of the 18.75km road, which had been expanded from two to six lanes, noting that it is one of the best roads pavements in the country constructed with great rigidity.

He recalled the hardship on the erstwhile two-lane road constructed over 40 years ago; hence, the decision to expand it from a two-lane to a six-lane concrete road befitting a metropolitan city.

In his words: “In November 2020, we received distress calls, and we came out and told the citizens that we are going to bring a permanent solution to this road that was constructed as a rural road over 40 years ago.

“It used to be a two-lane road, but because of the growth that we have seen on the Ibeju-Lekki/Eti-Osa/Epe corridor, it became obvious that the road could not serve our people again.

It became deplorable and unusable. So, in November 2020, we said we are going to reconstruct it. Today, we are thankful to God because we have transformed it to six-lane rigid concrete road with full complement of all road infrastructure.”

Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs. Aramide Adeyoye, said the phase one inauguration was another great effort of the government to eliminate gridlock and for socio-economic development.
