Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mayor Dele Oshinowo, for delivering people-focused projects, describing his performance as a model of grassroots development in the state.
Speaking at the official commissioning of infrastructure projects executed under Oshinowo’s administration, the governor expressed satisfaction at the scale and quality of works delivered, stating that his repeated visits to Agboyi-Ketu were a testament to the LCDA’s progress.
He said: “This will be my fourth or fifth time coming here to commission roads, projects, and all sorts of people-oriented programmes by this young, capable, and amiable chairman. It’s not easy for me to repeatedly visit the same LCDA unless something truly impactful is happening.”
He highlighted the projects being commissioned as clear evidence of responsive governance, noting that they include a multi-purpose administrative complex, a modern primary school, a technology hub, a 550-seater sports centre, and a network of newly paved roads.
“These are fiscal realisations of the dreams and aspirations of the people of Agboyi-Ketu. It sends a strong message not only to other chairmen, but to the incoming administration,” the governor added.
Sanwo-Olu also applauded the continuity in leadership, expressing confidence in the chairman-elect, Adetola Abubakar, to build on her predecessor’s legacy.
“She has observed and learned. My prayer is that she will even do better. The shoes may appear big, but the people are giving you their trust and resources, and you must hit the ground running,” he charged.
Oshinowo, in his remarks, said the event was a statement to the world that local governments are capable of driving impactful development.
“We are here to tell people that local government is the main place from which development should start. We have changed the aesthetic of Agboyi-Ketu and put it on the map as a model of grassroots transformation,” he said.
Responding, Abubakar, who has served in the outgoing administration for the past eight years, promised to continue on the path of transformation.
