Sanwo-Olu urges civil servants to be dynamic, committed to learning

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged civil servants in the state to be dynamic, innovative and committed to learning, as that is the only way they can get to higher positions in public service.

The governor gave this advice on Friday at the 30th anniversary of the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC). He told the management of the institution to be committed to bringing innovations to the PSSDC to make it the best institutions in the world, and make it ahead of other institutions in the world.

“We need to preserve the institution and grow it to an enviable level, to grow it internationally. When you challenge an idea, you also challenge development, I am impressed with the serenity and that the institution is brought alive, because it is a place that determines public servants promotion.”

He added that learning is a continuous process and that was why the institute was created in 1994 to serve as avenue to train civil servants, so that they can improve their knowledge and be effective in their duty.

“Learning and development is a continuous process. We should not stop learning, we should all aspire to grow, that is where your relevance comes from. We should be dynamic and earn new learning skill, we need to speak to the reality of learning and development, need to be abreast of the new innovations.”

Sanwo-Olu recalled that when he was appointed the Commissioner for Establishment and training in the state in 2007, the supervision of the institution falls under his ministry.

“He and the management of the institution did their best to prevent residents of Magodo from encroaching on the land allocated for the institution. We protected PSSDC land then, because we saw training our people as the vision and mission of establishing the institution, because it is viable and we need to nurture it.

“We needed to build a robust and dynamic institution. We need to grow the institution and make it conducive so that people can have perfect knowledge.” Earlier in his speech, the Director General of the institute Mr. Adefunmilola Adio-Moses, stated that the objective of the institute is to serve as an institution that will train other people globally.

The Head of Service, Bode Agoro, stated that the institution has provided high rate of quality learning to public servants and people in the private sector. Agoro also urged the management of the institution to strengthen partnership with stakeholders to entrench capacity building.
