Sarah seeks N12m for surgery in India

Sixteen-year-old Sarah Alegu Ogochuckwu has had her life and dreams put on hold since January 27, 2018, when she was diagnosed of chronic kidney disease, secondary nephrotic syndrome and connective tissue disease, which has since then caused a generalised body swelling, oliguria and fever.

Her doctor, a consultant nephrologist at Gbagada General Hospital, in a medical report disclosed that Alegu has had four sessions of salvage haemodialysis but is yet to complete the sessions due to financial constraints. He insisted that there is an urgent need for her to go through a kidney transplant surgery since one of her kidneys is not functional.

Her father, Ogochukwu Alegu, perplexed, said he has run out of funds to cater for the medical expenses of the patient. He said he spends N50,000 every week to run tests in addition to rising hospital bills. “The doctors insist we take her to India for surgery. I appeal to the general public to assist me to keep my daughter alive. I have nowhere else to go because I have exhausted all I have with support from family ad friends so far,” he said.

The Alegu family is now in urgent need of N12 million for the medical procedure on their daughter and seeks the support of citizens, governments and corporate organisations.
