Islamic scholars in Ilorin, Kwara State, at the weekend praised the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh Sa’ad Abubakar III, for his unequalled passion and patriotism geared toward the nation’s unity, peace, and coexistence.

They commended the Chairman of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) for his crusade against ignorance and terrorism in the country.

According to a letter signed by the Mallami Ubandoma of Ilorin Emirate, Dr. AbdulKadir Salman, at the conclusion of the Sultan’s three-day visit to the State, the Sultan was lauded for his fight against terrorism and for promoting peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

The letter read: “Your fight against ignorance and terrorism, coupled with your relentless promotion of knowledge, unity, and peaceful coexistence among the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is well noted and appreciated.

“Your consistent stance for goodness and righteousness would continue to be emulated by us.”

They expressed admiration for the Sultan’s love and compassion for ordinary people, describing him as a pious and fascinating leader of the Nigerian Muslim community.

“We have always marvelled at your passion, compassion, and affection for the ordinary people. It is a reflection of your piety and the gene your Eminence inherited from the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate and the leader of the faithful, Shaykh Uthman Dan Fodiyo, and all his illustrious successors.

“This has shown in your fascinating leadership of the Nigerian Muslim community. You have always extended love to the nation’s Muslim community in the Western, Eastern, Southern, and Northern parts of Nigeria and even those of other nationalities before and since you became the Sultan of Sokoto about two decades ago,” they said.

The scholars expressed gratitude to the Sultan for making another historic visit to Ilorin and prayed to God to grant him sound health to enable him to continue to promote enviable leadership for the Muslim community.

A special prayer was observed for the Sultan by the Mallami Ubandoma of Ilorin at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport, Ilorin, before the monarch returned to Sokoto.

Meanwhile, the Northern monarch, as the Royal Father of the Day, attended the maiden and combined convocation ceremonies of Ojaja University in Eyenkorin on Saturday, where he joined many Nigerians in calling for government assistance and support for private varsities.
