Science expo key to Nigeria’s economic diversification, says Onu

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said the 2021 Science, Technology and Innovation exposition is key to Nigeria’s economic diversification.

During a briefing at the weekend in Abuja, he said the event was bringing together researchers, inventors, innovators and investors to convert ideas into products and services.

According to him, the expo, which holds from March 15 to 19 in the Nigerian capital city, would strengthen commercialisation of research findings for local and foreign audience.

Onu added that the “expo is important to the nation in various socio-economic areas, especially in ensuring that the enormous natural resources of the nation are well exploited.

“Nigeria is well endowed with mineral resources which, if well harnessed, would be of great economic benefit to the nation.”

He said his ministry was working on policies and programmes to revolutionise the economy by making it knowledge and innovation-driven.

“We are convinced that with hardwork and determination, we will achieve an economy that is knowledge-based and innovation-driven, making us more productive and competitive to achieve a bright future for our dear nation,” the minister stated.
