SDP chieftain denies collecting money to sell out party in Oyo

Adelabu joins Accord Party

The factional Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, Folahan Oluyinka, has denied collecting N50 million from the state governor, Seyi Makinde, to buy over the party’s support ahead of the 2023 election.

He said the story was fabricated by political enemies to undermine his efforts in building the party.

Oluyinka, while addressing journalists in Ibadan on the crisis rocking the party, said that hell-bent on hijacking the party were making great mistakes in their lives, adding that he remains the one dictating the affairs of the party.

He said the governor had never given him money to buy over SDP ahead of the forthcoming polls, saying: “All the money I have expended on the party was from my sweat.”

Folahan said the crisis started when they discovered that another congress had been done announcing Okunlade as chairman of SDP in Ibadan.

IN another development, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and 2019 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Bayo Adelabu, yesterday, officially joined the Accord Party.

He said that joining the party was in accord with his vision.

Adelabu disclosed this in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen.

It reads: “A time exists in the life of a sincere aspiring man of the public. Such time now finds expression in my political career, which necessitates vital change, fundamental decisions and refreshing determination.

“It is therefore on this basis that I hereby declare the withdrawal of my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Accord Party. This is the political platform upon which my gubernatorial ambition shall be pursued to actualisation by the guidance and grace of the Almighty Allah.”
