Deputy Governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Cross River, Daniel Obo, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obo was received in his hometown by the APC Ward Chairman of Obubra Urban, Mr. Daniel Okpa, in Obubra Council.

Obo, who is also the Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Cross River Chapter, said he and his supporters defected because of the opportunities given to youths by the state Governor, Ben Ayade.

While pledging his support for the APC governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Otu, he added: “I represent the young people and we need to stand firm for the young people of our dear state. APC in Cross River has been favourable to young people and their tickets were given to young people.

“We have realised that our strength is in the APC and that is why we took the decision to join the party and protect the young people.

“For today, we have 18 youth council chairmen at the local government level that are moving with me to APC. Also, over nine ward chairmen from SDP have moved with me to APC.”

While welcoming Obo to the party, the Speaker of Cross River House of Assembly, Mr. Eteng Jonah-Williams, said Obo’s defection was timely and well conceived.

Also speaking, the APC deputy governorship candidate, Peter Odey, assured Obo of a seat at the “table” if the party wins the governorship election in the state.

Representatives of Boki 2 State Constituency in Cross River House of Assembly, Hilary Bisong, said Obo’s defection has given the party an edge in the elections in his area.

The lawmaker urged youths in the state to join the ruling party that has created opportunity for more youths to seek elective positions in the coming elections.
