Security operatives foil robbery in Kaduna, kill one, recover arms
The police in Kaduna have successfully stopped an armed robbery, resulting in the death of one of the robbers. They also seized a locally made pistol with a cartridge.
The operatives further apprehended two individuals suspected of car theft, recovered two stolen vehicles, and intercepted 15 pieces of army camouflage material.
The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, who confirmed the development in a statement yesterday, said: “On August 25, at about 1:20 p.m., during a routine patrol and stop-and-search operation on the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Highway, police officers stopped a vehicle and found a black leather bag containing 15 pieces of military camouflage materials.
“The suspect admitted that he was to deliver the materials to someone in Udawa Village, who would then give them to armed bandits in the Chukuba area under Shiroro Local Council of Niger State. The suspect is currently cooperating with the police to arrest other accomplices.
“On August 27, while on routine patrol at about midnight, the police patrol team of Makarfi encountered a group of armed robbers who had blocked the road using stones and logs of wood. Upon arrival at the scene, a shootout ensued between the police and the armed robbers.”
Hassan said: “The superior firepower of the police patrol team forced the robbers to flee into the surrounding bushes. During the exchange, one of the robbers was neutralised, and his locally-made pistol and one cartridge were recovered. The police are combing the surrounding bushes to apprehend the remaining suspects.
“Also, one Abdul Aziz Abdul Mumin reported to the police that his blue-black Toyota was stolen. Following the report, the vehicle was spotted in the Hayin Dan Mani area of Kaduna. The police traced the location and maintained surveillance.”
The spokesperson said that at about 8:00 p.m. on August 26, the police moved in and jointly arrested two suspects: Abdul Mukhtar and his accomplice, Mamman Ahmad, ‘m’, a resident of Zoo Road, Kano.
He added: “Ahmad was found driving a Mercedes Compressor with registration number AKD 547 GY, which is also suspected to have been stolen. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to using a master key to steal cars.”
