To reduce the high cost of living in the country, the Secretary General of the Seed Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria and the Managing Director of Maslaha Seeds Ltd. Gusau, Zamfara State, Ibrahim Abdullahi has said that the government should assist the seed companies to provide the necessary infrastructure to help farmers to produce enough food to feed the nation.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian on what the government could do to reduce the high cost of living, he recalled that the previous government supported agriculture with its Growth Enhancement Support Scheme (GESS), which helped to make agricultural inputs available to farmers.

“Today food prices have gone up. It is because of the fact that agricultural production was a bit low compare to previous years. If the food supply by the farmers is low, the prices of food will definitely go up. Something really needs to be done to really check the situation because if nothing is done, a bag of sorghum may go up to N10,000 or N20,000, and it is not going to be funny.”

According to him, government has the responsibility to provide enabling environment for the farmers to produce enough food to feed the country.
