IPOB alleges state-sponsored attacks, killings in region

Lead Promoter, South East Development and Leadership Initiative (SELDI), Ikenna Modebelu, yesterday, lamented rising insecurity and Monday Sit-at-home in the South East, saying it is impacting negatively on productivity and industrial development of the region.

He told reporters in Enugu, that conscious efforts must be made to save the region from collapse, stressing that research indicates that many businesses have either relocated or on the verge of collapse.

Modebelu insisted that employers of labour are passing through difficult times in the region, adding that jobs are being lost on daily basis as a result of the development, thereby, inflicting untold hardship on residents.

He noted that the inability of governors and other political leaders of the region to work together have compounded the situation.

MEANWHILE, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused state security agencies for attacks on some politicians in Anambra State, including recent attacks on the member representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Ubah, and House of Representatives member for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Chris Azubogu.

Ubah was attacked at Nkwo Enugwu-Ukwu, Nikoka Council, while Azubogu’s convoy was attacked around Nnobi, Idemili South Council last year, while running for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), leading to death of his aide.

Making these allegations in a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, and made available to newsmen, yesterday, the separatist group claimed that those responsible for these criminal activities have a mission to blackmail IPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The statement reads: “The recent attacks on Anambra politicians, namely: Ubah and House of Representatives member, Azubogu, were masterminded by the Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with other security agencies, to worsen insecurity in the South East.

“Recent attacks on high profile individuals, especially politicians in the region, are part of their blackmailing gimmicks against IPOB and ESN.

“It is another deceptive way to attract global attention to justify their premeditated lunching of full military assault on innocent Biafrans.”
