Senate

The Senate has approved the appointment of Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS).

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Interior, presented on Tuesday by its Chairman, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole (APC-Edo).

Oshiomhole indicated that the committee reviewed Nwakuche’s qualifications, experience, and leadership capacity. He described the nominee as a professional with impeccable character, extensive exposure, and a strong intellectual drive.

He further noted that Nwakuche had served in several command positions and had undergone various training programs. No petitions were filed against him, and he demonstrated outstanding competence during the screening.

Following a voice vote, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced Nwakuche’s confirmation, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen the correctional system. He also commended the committee for its work and urged the new Controller-General to tackle the rising incidents of jailbreaks.
