The Office of the President of the Senate, Federal Republic of Nigeria, has dismissed as false and misleading a viral video in which one Garus Gololo allegedly accused the Senate President of making divisive political remarks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a press release issued by the office, Gololo claimed that the Senate President said Northerners must vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or face expulsion from the country. The statement described the allegation as “completely false, malicious, and deliberately intended to mislead the public and incite tension.”
The office firmly denied that the Senate President made any such statement, insisting the claim has no basis in fact and urging the public to disregard it.
It further called on security agencies to investigate and arrest Garus Gololo, demanding that he provide evidence to support his assertions and clarify where and when the alleged statement was made.
The release also condemned Gololo’s alleged use of insulting language against the Senate President, describing it as disrespectful to the office of the number three citizen of the country and inconsistent with acceptable civic conduct.
It accused him of a recurring pattern of attacking the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu for political motives, urging him to desist from what it termed “provocative and divisive rhetoric.”
The statement, signed by Malam Jibril Lawal Tafida, Special Adviser to the Senate President on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations, called on Nigerians—particularly stakeholders in the North—to reject what it described as misleading and inflammatory narratives capable of undermining national unity.
The office reaffirmed its commitment to responsible communication and cautioned against the spread of unverified political claims on social media.
