Senator Buba not sponsoring banditry, kidnapping — Bauchi group

Senator Shehu Buba Umar

A coalition of Civil Societies Networks has distanced Senator Shehu Umar Buba, representing Bauchi South senatorial district, from the sponsorship of banditry and kidnapping in the country.

The coalition, through its secretary, Jabir Aminu, stated at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday that those behind the accusation were out to tarnish his image and reputation in order to achieve political goals.

The coalition accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in Bauchi State of perpetrating the act out of fear that Senator Buba, who chairs the Senate committee on national security and other related matters, might take a shot at the governorship of the state in the 2027 poll on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The coalition noted that Senator Buba’s contributions to Bauchi State, including the flag-off of community road construction, distribution of fertilisers, food relief to vulnerable households, and support to religious organisations, speak volumes about his commitment to the people of the state.

“We call upon the Bauchi State Government to cease using such underhanded tactics and focus instead on delivering good governance and meaningful development to the electorate,” they stated.

“Rather than resorting to character assassination, the government should channel its energy toward addressing the real challenges faced by its citizens.”

They also urged President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to disregard the petition forwarded by the Governor of Bauchi State, noting that it is rooted in personal vendettas rather than facts, and therefore should not be taken seriously.
