Senator raises the alarm over omission of Bayelsa in ambassadorial nominees list

bukola-sarakiSenator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP, Bayelsa Central), yesterday at plenary raised an alarm over the omission of Bayelsa State in the list of ambassadorial nominees sent by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Paulker, who raised a point of order under ‘Order 43, Personal Explanation’ said he and his colleagues had been inundated with calls from members of his constituency over the omission of Bayelsa in the ambassadorial nominees.

According to him, in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, there are two Bayelsans who are deputy directors that President Muhammadu Buhari would have nominated to fit-in as ambassadors, stressing that non-inclusion of Bayelsa is a violation.

Paulker said: “Mr. President, facts available to us show that even in the Foreign Affairs Ministry at least we have two Bayelsans that are in the level of Deputy Directors and I believe that these two personalities can fit in.

“Equally in the list there are some states that have up to three in number. Non- inclusion of any Bayelsan on the list is a clear violation of the section I read abinitio.

“Mr. President, my only prayer is that before the committee considers this list. I implore you and my colleagues to tell the committee and in fact communicate to the presidency of the omission so that justice can be done to the state called Bayelsa.”

Responding, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, noted that the committee should take note of the omission before carrying out their work.“In line with our rules, Senator Paulker discussed this matter with me and you know according to our rules under Order 43 there would be no debate but however I am happy that the chairman’s committee on Foreign Affairs is here and am sure they will take note of this observation while they carry out their work on this matter.“I am sure also by tomorrow we would have committed that to the foreign committee to work on that,” he said.
