Senior citizens in dire need of relief, healthcare during lockdown, foundation pleads
The Remo Growth and Development Foundation (RGDF) in Ogun State has called for a concerted effort from government, stakeholders, private sector and well-meaning Nigerians to ensure the aged, senior citizens and vulnerable persons are adequately taken care of during this lockdown.
The group noted that it was important to provide the senor citizens, who are more in Ogun State with nourishing food items as supplements, because their immune systems are weak and are in dire need of nutrition and healthcare during the lockdown. To cushion the effects of COVID-19 lockdown in Ogun State, the Remo Growth and Development Foundation (RGDF) flagged off distribution of food and other relief materials to the old, aged and vulnerable members of the community.
The distribution done in conjunction with Ikenne Development Association (IDA) was to serve as a palliative and community development initiative to alleviate the difficulties being experienced during the lockdown and 14 days sit-at-home as ordered by the federal and state government in Ikenne town.
Flagging off the distribution of the relief materials, president of Ikenne Development Association (IDA), Comrade Alhaji Adedoyin Adesina, who spoke at an interactive forum, said: “The essence of the distribution is to touch the lives of the residents by providing them with necessary needs and relief packages during this difficult moment.”
He urged the Almighty to endow humanity with wisdom and knowledge to get the cure for coronavirus in record time possible to be able to nip in the bud its deadly effects and avert further spread of the pandemic.
While thanking the members of Remo Growth and Development Foundation (RDGF), especially Mr. Akin Soname and Otunba Adeleke Adesina, and all well-meaning indigenes of Ikenne for their contributions, donations and kind gesture towards the success of the exercise, he urged the residents to comply fully with government directives by ensuring that they observe the social distance and sit at home to contain and reduce the spread of the pandemic.
