GOVERNOR of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have been joined as defendants in a court action seeking nullification of governorship election conducted in the state on December 5, 2015.
At the institution of a court action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Hope Democratic Party (HDP) at a Federal High Court in Abuja, HDP demanded the cancellation of the gubernatorial poll on the ground that its governorship candidate, Bulus Wombu and his running-mate, King George, were excluded unlawfully in the election.
In the suit filed on its behalf by Albert Ambrose Owuru, the HDP is also contesting the exclusion of its logo on the ballot paper used for the election by INEC.
Dickson and PDP, however, sensing the possible devastating effects of the action on the outcome of the court case, applied through their counsel, Francis Nwanozie Nwosu, to be joined as defendants in the suit so as to be able to defend their victory at the poll.
Justice Mohammed ordered the plaintiffs to amend their originating summon to accommodate the two defendants and serve same on them.
The hearing has been fixed for February 17, 2016.
