The son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, has met with a group of prominent young Igbo businessmen in Lagos as part of efforts to strengthen the Change Nigeria initiative.
The Guardian reports that the Change Nigeria Initiative is a platform promoting youth participation in politics, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
The meeting, which took place at The Delborough Lagos in Victoria Island, brought together leading entrepreneurs, including Obi Cubana, Stanley Uzochukwu of Stanel Group and The Delborough Lagos, E-Money, Zenco, Hon. Chima Anyaso, and other influential figures in business and philanthropy.
Presiding over the session, Seyi Tinubu and the participants discussed strategies aimed at improving Nigeria’s economic landscape and fostering collaboration among young business leaders. The discussions centred on sustainable economic development, youth empowerment, and the role of private enterprise in driving national transformation.
Obi Cubana, one of the attendees, shared highlights of the meeting on his Instagram page, describing it as a gathering of “great minds with shared visions, mission and goals.”
He wrote, “An entire day with great minds with shared visions, mission and goals; united in the same purpose — unity, peace and prosperity! Welcome to the future!”
Cubana added that while approaches to change may differ, the shared objective should remain progress built on integrity and legality. “Our expressions and methods of advocating for change may differ, but what truly matters is the outcome we achieve. We all have our unique approaches to addressing issues; however, whatever you do, let it be guided by a clear conscience and aligned with the rule of law,” he said.
The Change Nigeria initiative, which Seyi Tinubu has championed in recent years, seeks to mobilise Nigerian youths toward leadership, innovation, and enterprise as drivers of the country’s future growth.
It will be recalled that last week last weekend denied making a ₦20 million donation to Nollywood actress Sarah Martins’ Golden Heart Foundation, clarifying that while he supports charitable efforts, he does not endorse any action that contravenes Lagos State laws.
In a statement shared via his Instagram Story on Friday, Seyi addressed widespread reports and social media reactions linking him to the alleged donation. He explained that some of his friends, “moved by compassion,” had contributed funds to help a young woman who recently encountered legal issues over an environmental infraction.
“Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern,” he said.
Seyi, however, maintained that his respect for the rule of law remained firm.
“That said, I must emphasise that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State,” he stated.
He further noted that Lagos’s progress depends on citizens’ commitment to order and accountability. “Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order. Empathy and patriotism must always go together,” he wrote.
His clarification followed a viral claim by Sarah Martins, who had announced via Instagram that she received ₦20 million from Seyi Tinubu to support her foundation and expand her charitable outreach.
“From the office of the President, our philanthropic youth leader, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, just supported my NGO with ₦20,000,000. He didn’t only give me ₦20,000,000 but also promised to take my free food charity outreach to the next level,” she had written.
