SGF, Boss Gida Mustapha

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has said that it is time for government at all levels to take bold steps at proper implementation of programmes and policies.

According to him, with proper re-ordering and redirecting of programmes and policies, such would bring about rapid socio-economic development the country is longing for.

Mustapha, who stated this during the opening ceremony of the second quarter 2018 forum of Secretary to the Government of the Federation with
secretaries and state governments with the theme, “Improving Access to Social Services at National and Sub-National levels,” in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, said: “Nigeria has a lot of programmes and policies but implementation has been a major challenge.

I hope in the course of our interface today, we will be able to re-order and re-direct how we will go about implementing our policies.

Eminent colleagues, speakers and discussants will bring to bear their wealth of experience that is expected at the end of the sessions so that we can have very robust discussions.”

The SGF said the Federal Government is saddled with the responsibility of setting agenda for governance and for social economic development in states and local councils to remain valuable partners, noting that the forum is a veritable tool to provide the needed advantage and linkages that would drive the socio-economic growth and nation development.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has said that the provision of basic social services, particularly education and healthcare, was what is needed to bring about solutions to security problems in the country.

He said the resultant effect of failure of government to provide such basic needs at both national and state levels would cause the young population of the country to resort to self-help approach by indulging in social vices.
