In a powerful reminder to the Muslim community, Sheikh Ismail Adewumi has highlighted the profound significance of Ramadan, emphasizing its divine obligation and spiritual rewards. His words serve as a call to all Muslims to embrace the month with reverence and dedication.
“Ramadan is made compulsory by Allah; He imposed it on every Muslim ummah, so it is advised to take it as much important as it was decreed,” Sheikh Adewumi stated, referencing Quran 2:178:
“O you who believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.”
The Sheikh explained that the word ‘decreed’ underscores the obligatory nature of fasting, making it a non-negotiable pillar of Islam for every Muslim who has reached puberty.
He further illuminated the spiritual weight of fasting through the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as narrated by Abu Hurairah:
“God Almighty said: ‘Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting, for it is for Me and I will reward for it. Fasting is a shield. When one of you is fasting, let him neither utter obscenities nor raise his voice. If someone insults him or fights with him, let him say: I am fasting. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the bad breath of a fasting person is better to God than the fragrance of musk. The fasting person has two joys that make him happy: when he breaks his fast he is happy, and when he meets his Lord he is happy because of his fast.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
This hadith reveals the unparalleled spiritual rewards of fasting, portraying it as an act of worship that purifies the soul and strengthens the connection with Allah. It highlights that fasting is not just about abstaining from food and drink but about cultivating patience, humility, and righteousness.
Sheikh Adewumi’s message is a poignant reminder that Ramadan is not just an opportunity but a responsibility — a sacred time to seek forgiveness, practice self-discipline, and draw closer to Allah. The month carries the promise of immense blessings, with every moment of sacrifice echoing in eternity.
As Ramadan continues, the words of Sheikh Ismail Adewumi resonate as a guiding light for Muslims worldwide, inspiring them to observe the holy month with the utmost sincerity and devotion.
“Ramadan is a divine gift — an opportunity to cleanse the heart, elevate the soul, and walk the path of righteousness,” he concluded
