Sign Electoral Bill before Kogi, Bayelsa elections, Wada challenges Buhari

Immediate past governor of Kogi State, Idris Ichalla Wada, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to leave a legacy by signing into law, the Electoral Amendment Bill passed by the 8th National Assembly to fast track free, fair and credible elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states on November 16.

Buhari had returned the Bill for the third consecutive time to the National Assembly after it was passed and finally declined to accent to it, citing the closeness to this year’s general elections.

But Wada, who spoke yesterday in a lecture, titled, ‘History of Kogi Politics,’ during the launch of a book, ‘The Chronicles of grassroots politics,’ at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, said it was very important that the President signs the amendment to the electoral Bill authorising electronic transmission and collation of results from the polling units to Independent Nations Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Abuja.

This, he noted, would lead to limiting the human interface, which is infested with corruption and dishonesty in the electoral process. 

He explained further that the political history of Kogi State shows that it has undergone both transformation and turbulence, coupled with mutual ethnic mistrust as its albatross in the collective desire to attain full actualisation of the aspiration of its founding fathers.
