Residents of Simawa in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday bemoaned the poor services of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to the community, which has led to three years of darkness in the community.
The residents stormed the headquarters of IBEDC at Ring Road Ibadan dressed in black attires, carrying different placards.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Chief Kolade Segun-Okeowo, Secretary of the Simawa Independent Power Project and the Aare Asoludero of Simawa, said the community has made several appeals and entreaties to IBEDC to allow the area source for independent power since IBEDC has failed in three years to provide them with electricity.
Also, Chairman of the Simawa Independent Power Project, Deacon Ezekiel Taiwo, decried the attitude of IBEDC to the issue of power supply to Simawa and environs, accusing IBDEC of double standards.
The climax of the nonviolent demonstration involved slicing a dark cake bearing the inscription “IBEDC: 3 YEARS OF DARKNESS.”
While the peaceful protest was going on, some staff of IBEDC approached the protesters and called for resolutions.
