The national award organized by the Future Forward Female movement, received over 2000 nominations, recognised 25 inspiring and extraordinary young African female leaders who are breaking barriers, leading boldly, creating change, redefining narratives and transforming society for good. Janet Isesele, the Founder of Build A Child Initiative won the Impact maker Category.
Her significant contributions to redefining access to quality education for children and youths in underserved communities in southwest Nigeria have garnered well deserved recognition. Janet, known for her impactful work spanning over 5 years, recently hosted the 5th edition of “The Future is Now Conference” in Ado-ekiti. This one-day event brought together over 200 students from 20 secondary schools within the state, shedding light on crucial life issues to enhance education and purpose discovery.
Build A Child Initiative: Transforming Lives Since 2019
As the founder of Build A Child Initiative, a nonprofit organization established in 2019, Janet has spearheaded various educational and empowerment outreach programs. The initiative has positively impacted over 15,000 individuals across southwest Nigeria, reaching out to more than 100 schools and communities.
Overcoming Challenges: A Test of Resilience
Reflecting on her journey, Janet faced a test of resilience during her first school outreach when friends withdrew support. Undeterred, she rallied neighbors, successfully impacting over 400 students. This experience shaped her approach to team management, resulting in a current team of over 258 volunteers across Nigeria.
Measuring Impact: Aligning with Sustainable Development Goals
Build A Child Initiative focuses on Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 1 (No Poverty), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Janet aims to drive sustainable change by addressing education, poverty, and fostering partnerships.
Future Plans: ‘Build A Child Initiative Purpose School’
Looking ahead, Janet envisions establishing the ‘Build A Child Initiative Purpose School.’ This initiative aims to provide free, high-quality education for children in underprivileged communities, equipping them with life and tech skills to tackle local challenges. The overarching goal is to create a robust link between government, international institutions, and schools for evidence-based solutions to education and development in Africa.
