• Urges governor to start preparing handover note
• No automatic ticket for Oyebanji, says APC
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-West zone, has said that it has no pact with the incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, to support his second term election.
This was just as the party boasted that it would form the next government in the state in 2026, urging the governor to start preparing his handover note.
The PDP South-West Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, who spoke in Ikere-Ekiti during the inauguration of Dr Wole Oluyede gubernatorial campaign team, said the PDP was not a party to any commitment made to Oyebanji.
He said: “Everyone has the right to speak, but no one should speak on behalf of the PDP without proper authority. We want to make it clear that we are not affiliated with the APC.”
HOWEVER, the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that the current wave of adoption of Oyebanji does not mean an automatic ticket for his second term.
The APC maintained that the endorsement by different strata of the society does not in any way stop other willing aspirants from contesting at the primaries with him.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Segun Dipe, made the clarification in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during a chat with newsmen. Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed governorship election in the state for June next year, while party primaries are to be held before the end of the year.
