Growth was particularly notable among key artist segments: local streams of Nigerian female artistes grew by 55% year-on-year (YoY), while streams of independent artistes increased by 75% YoY. Independent artists and labels accounted for 58% of all royalties generated by Nigerian musicians on the platform, underscoring their growing influence in the country’s music economy.
Spotify further supported artist visibility, adding nearly 2,000 Nigerian artistes to editorial playlists in 2025. Globally, Nigerian artists appeared in nearly 320 million user playlists and over 12 million playlists in Nigeria, with more than 60 million playlists featuring Nigerian music created on Spotify during the year.
The report also highlights evolving listening trends in Nigeria, with genres such as pop urbaine, alternative pop, anime, emo, and drill seeing the highest growth over the past five years. Local artists dominated the domestic market, representing over 80% of tracks on Spotify Nigeria’s Daily Top 50, while local consumption grew 170% YoY.
Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy, Managing Director of Spotify Africa, said Nigeria’s music ecosystem continues to exemplify creativity, innovation, and global cultural influence. “For us, Loud & Clear is an opportunity to spotlight the evolving pathways artists are taking to build sustainable careers and to show the many ways Nigerian creators are shaping the future of music,” she said.
The report demonstrates that Nigerian artists are not only expanding their international footprint but also deepening engagement with local audiences, driving both cultural and economic growth in the music industry.
