Stakeholders commit to peace, unity in Kagarko communities

Leaders and stakeholders in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State have reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining peace, unity, and mutual coexistence among residents of the region.

The assurance was given during an expanded security meeting held at the Local Government Secretariat, Kagarko, where participants emphasised that peaceful coexistence has long been a hallmark of the area’s identity and would continue to be preserved.

In response to recent reports of unrest involving herders and farmers, Mrs. Charity Dangana, a community leader, clarified that the situation had been exaggerated.

She explained that women from the community had visited the Traditional Ruler of Koro Chiefdom, Dr. Yohannan Akoito, to raise concerns over isolated incidents of nighttime grazing by herdsmen, which the royal father promptly addressed by liaising with relevant authorities.

Dangana expressed surprise at reports on social media alleging a crisis, stressing that the claims were false.

“We are peaceful people, and as the women’s leader, I want to say categorically that Kagarko Local Government Area is not in crisis. We remain committed to peaceful coexistence,” she affirmed.

Also speaking, John Musa, a youth leader from the Kabara District, dismissed the reports of conflict, noting that certain individuals were attempting to sow discord for selfish reasons.

Similarly, Ardo Usman Abdullahi, representing the Fulani community, apologized for damages caused to farmlands by a few herders grazing at night, adding that the act was not typical and that those involved would be held accountable.

Chairman of Kagarko Local Government Council, Muhuyideen Umar, attributed the area’s relative peace to the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, whose administration continues to invest in dialogue, community security committees, and peacebuilding initiatives.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, represented by his adviser Musa Likita, urged residents to strengthen cooperation with security agencies and resist attempts by individuals seeking to incite unrest.

Likita highlighted federal and state development projects—such as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan, and the Defence Farm at Gurara Dam as evidence of government commitment to the region’s growth.

At the end of the meeting, stakeholders unanimously pledged to uphold peace and unity across Kagarko, stressing that collaboration among farmers, herders, and residents remains strong and that the area continues to serve as a model of coexistence in Southern Kaduna.
