Stakeholders identify dearth of capacity as cause of underdevelopment in Africa

Rising from a three-day interactive forum on how to achieve Africa’s set targets, participants at the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF’s) 25 years anniversary, unanimously agreed that capacity building is key if the continent must meet its socioeconomic transformation targets. It also agreed that the ACBF has a central role to play in meeting these critical capacity needs.

ACBF Governor for Zimbabwe and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Patrick Chinamasa, stressed the importance of developing own capacity to enable Africans develop homegrown solutions.

“Ownership is key because ‘carrying over agendas that are not yours is not sustainable,” he said. Central to any successful development agenda was knowledge, skills and experience.

Former deputy CEO of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD), Dr Hespina Rukato, implored African governments to adopt a more integrated approach to socioeconomic development and transformational change.
