Subsidy reversal advocates playing cheap politics with Nigeria’s economic stability – BTO4PBAT

Pro-Tinubu support group, BTO4PBAT

… Cautions against policy U-turn, says Tinubu made right call

… Intensifies re-election drive, takes unit-to-unit campaign to Irele

A support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), BTO4PBAT, has warned that any reversal of the federal government’s fuel subsidy removal policy would plunge the country into another period of economic uncertainty.

With the group commending President Bola Tinubu for insisting on the reform as a necessary economic measure, it argued that Nigerians must not be allowed to return to the era of long queues at filling stations and fuel scarcity.

The Director-General of the group, Adesuyi Adojutelegan, who stated this in the Irele Local Council Area of Ondo State during a unit-to-unit campaign organized to mobilize grassroots support for Tinubu’s re-election, described the calls for the reversal of the policy as a recipe for economic crisis.

The campaign group, which is sponsored by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized that those advocating the return of fuel subsidies are driven by political considerations rather than a proper understanding of the economic implications of the policy.

Adojutelegan maintained that the subsidy had placed considerable pressure on public finances and affected the ability of some state governments to meet their salary obligations before its removal.

He explained that the unit-to-unit campaign was designed to take the president’s achievements directly to the people at the grassroots and ensure that residents were adequately informed about government policies and programs across various sectors.

He reiterated the confidence that residents of Ondo State would turn out in large numbers to support Tinubu’s re-election, citing what he described as the administration’s economic policies and ongoing development projects.

“Those who are calling for its return are doing so out of complete ignorance and lack of understanding. They are playing politics with it in order to score cheap political points.

“If the subsidy was not removed, Nigeria would have been in a serious crisis. Before it was removed, many states could not pay salaries,” Adojutelegan said.

The Director-General listed road infrastructure, student loans, increased revenue allocations to state governments, and improvements in the health sector among the areas in which he said the Tinubu administration had recorded progress.

According to him, “The unit-to-unit campaign was initiated to ensure that we pass the message to the people at the grassroots. We saw the need to bring his achievements to the public square.

He maintained that the grassroots mobilization exercise would continue to educate residents on the administration’s policies and achievements, with the aim of securing widespread support for Tinubu’s re-election.
