Suspected assassins on rampage in Okpanam community, near Asaba, Delta state on Thursday night, killed a human rights lawyer, Barr. Patrick Ashiedu.

It was reliably gathered that the six-man armed gang started shooting sporadically into the air, causing people around the area to take to their heels.

The victim ran into them and he was brutally shot several times without being robbed, leading people to suspect they were not robbers but hired killers.

Sources said the assassins trailed him to the drinking spot after some inexplicable activities surrounding a woman.

Family members who did not want their names in print described the killing of their son as the work of assassins and not an unfortunate robbery, seeing as he was the only one killed and no one was robbed.

Unconfirmed sources say the late Ashiedu had issues in his marriage including some land issues, which might have been responsible for his killing. The Police PRO, Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the sad incidence and investigations are ongoing.
