Suspected bike thief lynched in Delta
It was a case of jungle justice yesterday at Ughelli, Delta State when a robbery suspect, popularly known as Ejime, who allegedly specializes in snatching and stealing motorbikes in Ughelli and environs, was lynched.
The suspect, who hails from Afiesere community, was alleged to have attempted snatching a motorcycle popularly called Okada, with two of his accomplices, now on the run when they ran out of luck.
According to an eyewitness, youths of the area came out in large numbers and gave them a hot chase. While the two others were able to escape, the said suspect, who is a renowned tailor, was however caught.
The eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the deceased confessed to the crime and also revealed the identity of one his gang members, before his death. He lamented that lately, there has been an upsurge in the stealing of commercial motorbikes in Ughelli and environs.
The source added that some angry relations of the deceased from neighboring Isoko community have threatened reprisal attack on Afiesere community over the death of their sister’s son, which they said was an act of extrajudicial killing.The Delta State police spokesman, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, could not been reached on his mobile phone as the line was engaged.
