A SUSPECTED drug addict has allegedly killed his father in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Tuesday night. The incident took place at No. 25 Akintobi Badejo Street, Sabo. The victim, aged 69, was simply referred to as Baba Basirat.

A family source told journalists in Abeokuta yesterday that the victim had wanted to take his son to church for deliverance from the drug addiction on Tuesday but he started struggling with his father at the entrance of the church. The suspect, according to the source, violently pushed the victim who collapsed and died immediately.

Journalists who heard the news and rushed to the scene of the crime were shocked as family members attempted to attack them, querying their interest to cover an incident, which according to them is a “family matter.”

The dead, an indigene of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, was said to have been rushed to Mercy Hospital in Onikolobo area of Abeokuta where he was confirmed dead.

Yesterday, the suspect was said to have gone violent again and destroyed a blue Honda Accord with registration number Lagos, AGL 763 AQ belonging to his brother-in-law before he was captured. When journalists visited, the suspect was said to be on sedative and “tied in a room to further prevent his violent act.”
