A suspect, one Wasiu Alowonle, on Wednesday, committed suicide by jumping from a three-storey building at the premises of the Ogba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

The suspect was brought in from the prisons by warders, where he was remanded, to continue his trial.

Alowonle was said to have been arraigned before the court by the police for theft.

When his case was adjourned, he was taken to the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison in Lagos, pending his next court appearance before Magistrate O.I Raji.

On the day for his re-appearance in court, he was brought by the prison officials to Ogba Magistrate’s Court 20 to face trial for his alleged crimes.

In a bid to evade trial, he jumped through the open window of the three-storey building and when his body hit the ground, he died on the spot.

The court prosecutor was said to have contacted the Istook Police Division about the death in their premises.

The prosecutor also called in the Lagos State Ambulance Services to remove the body to the morgue.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Spokesman, Chike Oti, confirmed the incident, adding that the police was investigating the incident.
