Suspected thugs attack APC senatorial candidate’s motorcade in Kano

Injure 17, destroy vehicles

No fewer than 17 people, at the weekend, sustained injuries when suspected political thugs unleashed attack on the campaign motorcade of Kano Central senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulsalam Abdulkarim.

The incident, which occurred at Gayawa Village in Ungogo Local Council of Kano State, triggered pandemonium in the community for several hours.
An eyewitness stated that the senatorial candidate, fondly called AA Zaura, narrowly escaped unhurt in the attack that left more than 10 campaign vehicles vandalised.

Zaura’s media aide, Ibrahim Mua’azzam, who confirmed the development, said the incident occurred when the senatorial candidate was returning from a condolence visit.

He said: “It is true Zaura’s motorcade was attacked around Gadar Katako, a border community to Ungogo and Nassarawa local councils. Although the attackers are yet to be identified, Zaura has called for calm.

“From our interim assessment, the damage caused by the inimical act has so far revealed 17 minor and major casualties. The major casualties are undergoing treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. We also have 17 cars damaged.

“Zaura wants to assure victims of the attack that they would be taken care of absolutely. We also assure that all legal means will be taken against the culprits and I can tell you they would be brought to book.”

Meanwhile, efforts to speak with Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, failed as his phone line was switched off.
