Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, on Monday commissioned a road project executed by the Sokoto State Government at a cost of N3.7 billion.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Kefas described the project as an investment toward sustainable development.
He however commended Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through critical infrastructure, describing investment in road construction as an investment in the future.
According to him, the project was undertaken as part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life of residents.
“Road infrastructure remains one of the most critical foundations for sustainable socio-economic development,” Aliyu said.
“Well-constructed roads facilitate the efficient movement of people and goods, improve access to residential communities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, markets and business centres, while also strengthening security, improving the environment and stimulating economic growth.”
He said the newly completed roads would ease transportation challenges, improve connectivity, boost commercial activities and enhance the overall living conditions of residents and visitors.
Aliyu explained that the project forms part of the state’s Urban Renewal Programme, through which his administration is transforming the physical landscape of the Sokoto metropolis.
“Under this initiative, numerous strategic infrastructure projects have been executed to modernise our cities, improve public amenities and create an environment that is functional, resilient, attractive and capable of supporting sustainable economic development,” he said.
“To us, infrastructure development extends beyond the construction of roads and buildings; it is an investment in human development, economic opportunity and the long-term prosperity of our people.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that every part of Sokoto State benefits from inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.”
The governor urged residents, motorists and other road users to take collective ownership of the infrastructure by protecting it from misuse and supporting its maintenance to ensure its longevity.
