According to spokesperson for the command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the medical records from the psychiatric hospital where the suspect had been receiving treatment confirmed her health status.
On March 13, Wunmi stabbed the deceased, a civil servant, in her three-bedroom bungalow along Superjet Road, Premier Estate, off Oda Road, Akure South Local Council of the state, with the decomposing body discovered a few days later.
Odunlami-Omisanya said the suspect, who had since been arrested, has been taken into the police medical facility for safekeeping to avoid injury to herself and others.

She said: “On Sunday, March 17, the police were informed about the death of a middle-aged woman in her home with an already decomposing body.
“The police took the remains to the mortuary, and during clean-up, a mark of violence (stabbing) was observed, while a knife was also found at the scene of the crime.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased lived with her niece, Omowunmi Aduloju, 17, who suddenly disappeared and locked the door. The stench oozing out of the house attracted residents, who notified the deceased sister.
“The sister, on arrival, peered through the window and saw the body on the floor; hence, the police were informed.”

The corpse, in a decomposing state, was removed for preservation.
“The teenager was later arrested and was interrogated about what happened to her foster mother. The suspect said she stabbed her and locked her up in the house because she was always disturbing her to use her medication.
“Family members claimed the young girl had been under her late aunt’s tutelage since she was six years old but developed mental illness in 2023 and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital in the state.
“The young girl was discharged and handed over to the late woman to continue to monitor her.
“The psychiatric hospital where she was treated confirmed this claim by providing the police with her medical history,” she explained.
