Teleperformance has announced the launch of an investigation into the company’s operations in its Kenyan office following the death of Ladi Anzaki Olubunmi, a Nigerian employee.

On Tuesday, The Guardian reported Olubunmi’s death, detailing allegations against Teleperformance made by her colleagues.

A colleague, who pleaded anonymity, said the company denied Olubunmi leave days and a work permit despite multiple pleas.

The colleague also stated that Teleperformance failed to check on her when she was absent from the office on March 5. She was later discovered dead in her apartment in Lower Kabete, Kenya, when a colleague visited her residence.

In a statement released by Majorel, a subsidiary of the company, and sent to The Guardian’s correspondent by Kevin Ogola in response to the correspondent’s inquiries, the company said it had noticed her absence from work on March 5, 6, and 7 and had attempted to contact her, but all efforts proved abortive.

Majorel management also stated that it requested a colleague who lived nearby to visit her apartment.

According to them, Olubunmi was discovered dead upon the colleague’s visit.

Addressing the allegations of denied leave, Majorel noted that she had traveled to Nigeria on February 20, 2024, and returned to Nairobi on February 23 of the same year.

It also stated that she had additional travel planned for later in March before her death.

Teleperformance, in another statement, noted that it would launch an independent investigation into its operations in Nairobi conducted by a third party.

“To bring full clarity to this situation, we will launch an independent investigation into our operations in Nairobi to better understand these concerns and implement appropriate solutions,” Teleperformance stated.

It added that it would share details of the investigation in due course.
