Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is challenging the declaration of Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binanni as the winner of the primary.
He told the court that there was over-voting and participation of ‘illegal’ delegates during the exercise, urging it to recognise him instead.
Binani, who has emerged first female gubernatorial standard-bearer since the creation of the state on August 27, 1991, also defeated erstwhile Governor Jibrila Bindow and three others, Rep Abdulrazaq Namdas, Theman Wafari and Umar Mustapha, to achieve the feat.
While announcing the results, chairman of the electoral committee, Alhaji Gambo Lawan, said Binani polled 430 votes to beat Ribadu, who came a distant second with 288 ballots, as Bindow followed with 103 votes, Namdas, 94 votes, Umar Mustapha scored 39 votes, while Wafari, the only Christian in the race, got 21 ballots.
While Bindow and Namdas congratulated the victor and charged her on sportsmanship, Ribadu’s agent Zachary Madayi, on the other hand, protested over-voting by two ballots.
