There is tension around the Jakande Estate at Isolo, Isheri Road in Lagos State after a motorcyclist hit a passerby who died instantly.
Residents and eyewitnesses reportedly trooped out in anger to attack the bike rider and set other motorcycles on fire.
However, policemen were quick to rescue the motorcyclist to a hospital while the remains of the pedestrian has been evacuated.
Lagos State police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said an angry mob was already burning the motorcycles before the police arrived back at the scene.
“The rider veered off the road and hit a pedestrian. Unfortunately, the pedestrian fell and died on the spot. People around decided to lynch the motorcycle rider,” Hundeyin said.
“The Lagos State Police Command condemns jungle justice in very strong terms.”
The police spokesman warned that anyone found engaging in such would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He assured that officers are on the ground to ensure the safety of lives and restore normalcy to the area.
