A gang of suspected Boko Haram terrorists in gun trucks and on motorcycles attacked the Customs House and killed an officer in Geidam Local Council of Yobe State.

A community leader, Bukar Modu, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, in Geidam, said: “The insurgents struck when they ensured that the Customs’ personnel had closed from work last Friday.

“The raining of gun shots forced Customs’ officers to scamper for their safety.”

He said that some of the officers escaped through the gate, while others scaled over the perimeter fence.

He, however, noted that one of the officers, Usman Gombe, was shot dead while attempting to scale over the fence.

Besides, Modu further disclosed that the terrorists collect taxes from farmers and herdsmen living in the Kumadugu/Yobe River basins.

“The military and other security agencies are not taking measures against the activities of terrorists in border communities,” he lamented.

Also, a security source in Damaturu, said: “The terrorists also torched our patrol vehicle, an electric generator and part of the Customs’ building,” adding that this is the second incident of killing Customs’ officers.
