Reps Speaker seeks prosecution of perpetrators

Armed bandits, who invaded Dorayi Community in Zaria Local Council of Kaduna State, have killed the Ardon Birni da Kewaye of Zazzau Emirate, Alhaji Shuaibu Mohammed, and his four children.

The bandits, numbering about five, reportedly stormed the chief’s residence on Saturday about 10p.m. and started shooting sporadically. A source told The Guardian that the bandits also rustled over 100 cattle from the chief’s compound.

At the time of filing this report, neither the state’s police command nor government had issued a statement on the incident.

“Wife of the deceased, Malama Halima Shuaibu, explained that her husband was brought out of his bedroom and shot twice in the head by the bandits. He died instantly,” the source stated.

He quoted the woman as saying the bandits went to every room in the compound and killed her four children, who were married with children.

The only surviving child of the deceased chief, Abdurrahman Shuaibu, explained that the bandits shot two other people on their way out of the village.

SPEAKER of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has condemned the tragedy, saying the killers must not go unpunished. This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, yesterday.

Abbas described the killing as most unfortunate, barbaric and gruesome, calling on security agencies in Kaduna to intensify efforts at bringing the killers of the Fulani leader and his children to book.

The Speaker equally called for calm while the security agencies do their job. He sent condolences to the Zazzau Emirate, the bereaved family, the people and government of Kaduna over the unfortunate incident, just as he prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
