Suspected terrorists have killed two people, including a security operative attached to the Katsina State Government-owned security outfit, Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), in Sabuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, which occurred in the wee hours of Friday around 2 a.m. at Dan Auta village, also saw the abduction of 13 persons reportedly including women and children.
It was learned that one of the abducted victims included the Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the area, whom sources simply identified as Alhaji Imamu.
In addition to those killed, it was gathered that about half a dozen people sustained injuries, some of whom are currently receiving treatment at the primary healthcare centre in the area.
The terrorists were said to have stormed the community in their numbers, riding on motorcycles and wielding automatic rifles.
They were said to have met some resistance from members of the KSCWC as well as local vigilante groups in the area, but the large number of terrorists was said to have overwhelmed the resistance.
It was learned that the security operative lost his life while trying to protect the community from the attack, while the second deceased person was said to have been shot after resisting abduction.
The council area is among more than a dozen others across the state facing incessant attacks by suspected terrorists, kidnappers, and rustlers.
Most of the communities that witness such attacks on a frequent basis are those located close to the dreaded forest area, which spreads from the state into six others in the northwest region and Niger State.
According to reports, terrorists use the forest as their hideout, from where they launch attacks in hapless communities within the state and elsewhere.
Hundreds of people have lost their lives while several thousand have been abducted, mostly for ransom, since the security situation began more than a decade ago.
The spokesperson for the police command in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, did not immediately respond to calls to his mobile number at the time of this report.
